And the tour begins!

The final stretch up Mt. Pheifferhorn required some mountaineering. Luckily Chris, Forrest and our neighbor Nick can billy goat their way to the top of any mountain as long as they can ride back down.

A 360 degree glimpse of the Wasatch. There are a lot of chutes just waiting for us to ride. I hope to start riding them more next season.

Mt. Phiefferhorn from all angles. We went up it, rode down it and all around it.

From the summit of Mt.Pheifferhorn we rode the less than desirable southern slope and then back up for the good stuff.

Forrest dropping into Hogum Canyon.

Nick choosing the deep wind drift.
img_1810
Chris choose a cliff drop and three turns knowing his back yard will provide more pow and there is no need to farm the snow.

Looking back at my line reminded me of being stuck in a pinball machine with tracks on both sides of me acting as my boundary lines.

We regrouped bellow our canvas and prepared for the fun part a 5000 foot ride back to the truck.

Don’t Purge Till Powder Mountain http://naturolfuels.com/dont-purge-till-powder-mountain/ http://naturolfuels.com/dont-purge-till-powder-mountain/#comments Wed, 25 Mar 2009 21:44:44 +0000 Tony http://naturolfuels.com/?p=281 img_17151

A chilly 7 couldn’t be a better temperature for driving 80 miles With Mouse and Ben to find powder. I hope the kids on this bus will one day be smelling french fries Instead of slowing suffocating by the toxic diesel fumes arriving to school in a stupor.

img_1720

After arriving at Powder Mountain we set out on a morning hike. Shortly in, I pointed to a far away peak. “Were going there” I explained why, we shed a layer and were off.

img_1722

Just before reaching summit Mouse shouted over the slight breeze” Look How Far We’ve Came” Ben shouted back ” What Do You Mean I Can’t Even See Where We Started. Laughing, I snapped a shot to show our progress. The top right corner in the photograph is close to where our morning ridge line walk about began.

10am-The summit of James peak a good achievement by any means. We all cracked open a cold one taking the physical and physiological demands of mountaineering and pissed all over them(literally). Ya Ben thought it was a bit hypocritical but I say if you can handle it then why not.

img_1725

A glimpse of Mouses first figure 8 turns.

img_1727

After several thousand vertical feet down we hopped on a chair to head back to the top. Just a few minutes ago we were way up there. Mouse opened another PBR and quoted “And the beer I had fro breakfast wasn’t bad. So I had one more for desert.”

We finally found the “AAASSSPENS!!!” on our first chair lift up we spotted a clump of aspen trees that had zero turn complete fresh snow for the taking. So we did what we do best and went and weaseled or way over to them getting a two solid runs where again the only tracks we saw were our own.

picture_053

Back at the truck with just enough energy to drive home we came upon a new digger tradition. If your on a road trip and you forget your wallet all you can eat is the twelve pack your homies will buy you and what ever you actually remembered to bring. Lucky for mouse he remembered his colored shark gummies.

img_1757

Yes, we made it back 80 miles to Salt Lake on veggie-oil. We thought today would be one to remember ending it with a treat at the local Soup Kitchen. Helen rode her bike to bring mouse his wallet.

Brighton Me Up http://naturolfuels.com/brighton-me-up/ http://naturolfuels.com/brighton-me-up/#comments Sun, 22 Mar 2009 17:24:56 +0000 Tony http://naturolfuels.com/?p=252 img_1670

17 degrees, there couldn’t be better conditions for a vegetable oil road trip to the mountains. Quick top off and we were ready to go.

img_1672

Here is a quick glimpse of my controller showing extremely cold temps pulling out of the driveway. Just three miles from home my coolant temp reached 170 degrees and I drove 28 miles to Brighton Ski Resort on really cheap fuel.

img_1678

To show how I am truly devoted to cutting carbon emissions. I picked up a hitch hiker just trying to get some of his own turns in. As we pulled into the parking lot our conversation of how many murders have been in the canyon ceased. Both of our jaws dropped as we were greeted by 26″ of freshly fallen snow.

img_1684

I met up with local photographer Jake Lawlor and since my ACL is torn and surgery is monday, I shoot this photo of him jumping of one of our go to inbounds spots. I think it was a nice change for him to get some runs in instead of feeling like he was obligated to take photos.

img_1698
img_1700

Knowing this was my last day to ride Brighton this season I skipped lunch and hiked Claytons peak with some of the diggers. Here Mouse, Cody, and Spencer disappear into the aspen abyss returning to Brighton.

img_1701

You can’t see mouse behind my spray but I assure you he is there. He was smiling which resulted in choking on some snow.

img_17061

With plenty of daylight left Mouse and I meet up with Ben a digger who was missing in action early that day. The three of us hiked pioneer ridge. As we reached the summit we shouted down to the park crew working hard digging out the features. Experiencing some of the deepest turns of the day we went back for another run. Thats when ben found something to jump off.

img_1711

Yes my truck started back up ready to go home. Leaving the mountains and smell of french fries behind all we could think about was the 80 mile journey to Powder Mountain the following morning.
